It should not be hard to understand that it’s useful to have thermal generating capacity, and it’s also useful to not have to burn as much fuel. Lots of people have gasoline fueled generators for their house. If you had to run them all the time, they’d be ridiculously expensive. Having the capacity is great. Running them all the time is not.
